This necklace brings together two materials that have long been valued on the Northwest Coast—dentalium shells and Devil’s Club. The Devil’s Club beads are crafted from the inner wood of the plant after it has been carefully harvested, dried, and shaped by hand. While the inner wood is transformed into these natural beads, the outer bark and roots have traditionally been used by many Indigenous Peoples in medicines, salves, teas, and cleansing practices, making full use of the plant with respect and intention. Paired with dentalium, a shell that has been treasured for generations as a symbol of wealth, trade, and cultural connection, this necklace reflects a deep appreciation for the gifts of the land and the knowledge carried forward through generations.
